Civezza

Civezza is a beautiful Ligurian village, very picturesque, built on a mountain ridge. The old town consists of a labyrinth of small lanes called the caruggi, stairs and little squares. In the village you will find a good pizzeria "le Cinque Torri". In summertime in Civezza numerous festivals, music concerts and tastings of local specialties take place. Casa Maria is just 1.5 km to the center of Civezza. The nearest seaside resort of San Lorenzo al Mare is just 2 km away and has beautiful free sandy beaches. You do not need to pay admission fee, you can rent beach chairs, but you do not have to. The small old town, which ends at a palm-lined promenade, has some good restaurants, bars, shops and very good ice cream parlors, small but nice. From our many years of experience we can say that even in August you will find a parking space in San Lorenzo without any problems. From here, the newly developed "Pistaciclabile" - the longest cycle path in Europe on the old railway line leads along the sea to far behind San Remo. You can rent bikes easily in San Lorenzo, the route is completely car-free, runs without great differences in height and is also good for children. You can also borrow child seats for bicycles. www.pistaciclabile.com Those who prefer mountain biking will find very beautiful and scenic routes from Casa Maria via Civezza to Santa Brigida and on to Monte Faudo (1149 m). The provincial capital of Imperia is just 8 km away. Along the sea, in the direction of Imperia-Porto Maurizio, there are a lot of interesting restaurants, including the "Sarri" with a Michelin star. On the promenade you will find many beaches, both private and public. It is worthwhile to walk a bit further to see one of the most beautiful corners of Imperia: the small fishing port Borgo Foce. The old quarter, Il Parasio, looms over. Imperia consists of two parts, Porto Maurizio and Oneglia. In Oneglia, further east, you will find a second harbor, some very clean pebble beaches and many interesting shops. If you want to shop, go to Oneglia. In both districts beautiful, big weekly markets take.

Pantasina

Pantasina is a typical Ligurian mountain village, surrounded by olive groves. 100 years ago, up to 600 people lived in Pantasina, but the village now only counts about 150 inhabitants. It's very quiet here, the people are very friendly and helpful. In the village there are some traditional oil mills which produce an excellent olive oil, as well as organic products. In the middle of the village on the large sunny piazza there is a village shop, which has cult status. Here you can buy the local products, homemade jams, fresh eggs, cheese from the mountain farmers and delicious sandwiches, but also detergents, lighters or international newspapers. The store is also a bistro, offering coffee, wine and snacks. Information about the regular village festivals in Pantasina is available in the store. The most famous and largest is the Chestnut Festival in October, when the whole day is spent eating, drinking, dancing and playing passionate games of boccia on the piazza. From Pantasina you can undertake beautiful walks, with guides available in the house. f you drive from Pantasina about 4 km towards to the sea you come to Molini Prelà where you will find 3 restaurants, grocery stores and a pharmacy. Continuing on from here you will arrive at Dolcedo. This is a slightly larger, very pretty town with a good infrastructure providing a petrol station, bank, post office, several bars and restaurants.

Sant Agata

Sant'Agata

Imperia consists of two districts, which were for centuries independent cities. The first one Porto Maurizio was characterized by the rural culture, trade, and the nobility, the other one Oneglia by the industry and the harbor. The old town of Porto Maurizio, Parasio has an almost perfectly preserved medieval structure, lots of houses with labyrinth-like lanes, stairs and underpasses. Everything is wildly romantic, very authentic and thankfully not yet "restored to dead". Porto Maurizio has also got a nice little harbor and beautiful sandy beaches. On Thursday there will be a weekly market on the main street Via Cascione. It's worth getting up early! Oneglia however, passes slowly from its industrial past and is becoming a trendy, chic city. The factories are closing, in the harbor you will find a growing number of very good restaurants and bars. Beside the fishing trawlers where you can still buy fresh fish one can see more and more luxury yachts. The beautiful Via Bonfante with its arcades becomes more and more interesting. There are very good grocery stores, boutiques and bars. Twice a week on wednesday and saturday there is a large market in Oneglia. Here you will find everything from tablecloths, flowers and handbags to prosciutto. Highly recommended is the Olive Museum of the Carli family, Museo dell'Olivo - Via Garessio, 13-18100 Imperia. Directly in front of the museum you will find "Emporio Carli" a big shop where you can buy olive oil, pesto, wine but also cosmetics which the Carli family produces from the olive oil. Many products are in organic quality. In Imperia-Porto Maurizio there are sandy beaches. In Imperia-Oneglia most of the beaches are with pebbles, but these are also in August not crowded and the water is very clean. A tip: Go to Imperia-Oneglia, at the roundabout in the center you drive in direction Genoa. After arriving at the sea, do not turn as indicated to the left, but continue straight ahead along the sea. It is a dead end, a never completed coastal road. In the further course the road is closed for cars. There you will find beautiful small, romantic bays where you can go swimming with dogs. We highly recommend a trip to Pieve di Teco (simply follow SS 28 in direction Turin) an ancient trading town. Every last Sunday of the month there is a very interesting antiques market.

Vasia

Vasia

The beautiful, historic mountain village Vasia (approx. 450 inhabitants) is situated very picturesquely at an altitude of 385m in the hinterland of Imperia in the middle of olive groves, facing to the south the coast. Vasia has a small grocery store and a post office, about 7 km away Caramagna a supermarket. The gentle mountain landscape is perfect for hiking or mountain biking. The clean and well maintained beaches of Imperia and the surrounding area (see ADAC test) are only about 10 km away and provide a pleasant swim from May to October. Not far from here, there are very beautiful and interesting places that can be easily reached via the motorway: If, for example drive east along the coast, you reach Diano Alassio (25 miles), Portofino (140 miles) and Cinque Terre (150 km) to visit: if you drive the other hand, to the west, you come to San Remo (20 miles) and Monaco (55 km) , Nice (75 km), Cannes (90km) and Saint Tropez (180 miles).

Prela Castello

Prelá Castello is an idyllic, protected place with a ruined castle of the XII century in the middle of olive groves. The village looks back to a long and eventful history. In the Middle Age, the rulers who controlled the whole Prino valley lived in the castle of Prelá. The houses in the village are partly as old as the castle itself or were built from the stones of the castle. The Renaissance church with its baroque facade reflects the past glory and richness of the place. Today only 15 people are still living in Prelá, all of them are very kind and helpful. The only street leading through the village is rarely used and ends on the sunny Piazza. The nearest grocery stores are located in Vasia (2 km) and Pantasina (1.9 km). The olive cultivation is still intensively practiced in Prelá. You can buy the delightful olive oil from the rare Taggiasca olive directly from the owners. The only road leading through the village is a dead end and ends on a sunny piazza. Here from time to time village festivals are celebrated in the summer months, tourists are always welcome. The nearest grocery stores is located in Vasia (2 km) and Pantasina (1.9 km), the nearest restaurant in Vasia. The owner of the corner shop in Vasia is the same of the restaurant, so do not forget to make a reservation for a table in the restaurant when getting the buns in the morning!

Pietrabruna

Pietrabruna

Only 10 km behind the popular seaside resort of San Lorenzo al Mare, the mountain village Pietrabruna lies on a slope with an open view to the sea. The place looks back at a long history whose origin lies in the 12th century. In the center of the village the medieval structures are still visible. One can get lost quickly in the labyrinth of small lanes, stairways and the roofed passages, the so-called Caruggios. The mystical atmosphere enchants, and time seems to stand still. In the past Pietrabruna was not only known for olive cultivation but particularly for its lavender fields and the production of lavender essence. Unfortunately, there are only a few lavender farmers left. The other product, known far beyond the the village borders, is "Stroscia di Pietrabruna": a special cake made at the village bakers' and sold in the neighbouring shop. You have to try it! The village has two restaurants and "Au Torciu" in the middle of the old town is especially recommended. Very good cooking at a fair price. In the neighbouring village of Torre Papaponi you find an particularly good and famous restaurant "La Pignatta d'Oro"; however, there the quality has its price. The nearest seaside resort called San Lorenzo al Mare has beautiful beaches which are free of charge and where you can rent deck chairs if you wish. The small town, which ends at a palm-lined promenade has some good restaurants, bars, shops and very good ice cream parlors. Although small it is worth a visit and from our long-standing experience we can say that you can easily find a parking space in San Lorenzo, even in August. From here, the newly developed "Pistaciclabile" - the longest cycle path in Europe along the sea until far behind Sanremo, starts. You can rent bikes in San Lorenzo, the route is entirely car-free and easy to ride for children.

The beaches nearby of Porto Maurizio in Borgo Prino District are mostly public and sandy beaches. Imperia consists of two districts, which were for centuries independent cities. One Porto Maurizio, was marked by the rural culture, trade and the nobility, the other Oneglia by the industry and the port. The old town of Porto Maurizio, Parasio, has an almost completely preserved medieval structure, lots of houses with alleys like a labyrinth, stairways and underpasses. All very romantic, authentic and fortunately not "completely restored". Porto Maurizio has also a nice little port and beautiful sandy beaches. Poggi

Poggi

The pretty, typical Ligurian village Poggi is lying on a sunny hill 2 km from the sea. The view reaches from the Maritime Alps to the Mediterranean sea, under a clear winter weather you can even see Corsica. The medieval center is well preserved and maintained. The village has a grocery store, a bar and a trattoria, all belong to the same owner. The kitchen is Ligurian and only fresh ingredients are used for cooking. The nearest supermarket "Simply" you will find directly below Poggi in Imperia Porto Maurizio: very good meat counter, good selection of fruit and vegetables. In Imperia itself, there are many small delicates stores and other large supermarkets. In both districts, Porto Maurizio and Oneglia also weekly markets take place. Inside the house you'll find an information book with all dates. Directly below Poggi at the sea you will find the districts "Borgo Prino" with many beaches, restaurants and plenty of parking places and a little further towards the center there is "Borgo Foce" with very good restaurants and scene bars. In the immediate vicinity of Poggi there are other very beautiful, historic hinterland villages like Cipressa and Civezza, here also you can eat very good. Here all beaches are free, you can rent deck chairs, but you have not to. Also, all sanitary facilities can be used free of charge, pay attention to the signs "Spiaggia libera attrezzata", it means something like "Free beach with facilities". Porto Maurizio

Porto maurizio - imperia

The port city of Imperia consists of two parts, Porto Maurizio and Oneglia. Porto Maurizio lies gracefully on a hill and overlooks the Ligurian coast. A pretty, medieval old quarter (Paraiso), the largest church in Liguria and a marina are the main attractions of the district. The beaches of Porto Maurizio in the Borgo Prino district are sandy beaches and most of them are public. mperia, a town on the Riviera that rarely appears in tourist guides. Maybe that's a good thing, because Imperia has been spared from mass tourism. Everything wildly romantic, very authentic and fortunately not yet "restored to death". Porto Maurizio also has a nice little port and very nice sandy beaches. Borgo Foce is one of the most beautiful corners of Imperia, it is a small fishing port with very good restaurants, a few bars and a small beach "Foce Beach". Since you can only reach the place on foot, it is still an insider tip. The atmosphere is incomparably beautiful. Up to the sandy beaches of Porto Maurizio, Borgo Marina district, there are only 750 m walk. You can walk from Borgo Foce to Borgo Marina directly on the sea, on the “Lovers' Path”: Passeggiata degli Innamorati.
